Sustainability

Communities

We respect and value the local community, and are dedicated to openly communicating and taking actions that support mutually beneficial outcomes.

Northern Minerals is committed to building respectful and long-term relationships with surrounding communities and the Traditional Owners of the lands on which we operate. Throughout our Browns Range HRE Project we have maintained ongoing engagement, ensuring we can establish and improve mutual trust, identify opportunities to support initiatives and cultural events, and maintain a positive impact that benefits the community, local businesses, and the overall region.

Heritage

We are dedicated to working respectfully with the Traditional Owners of the lands on which we operate in Western Australia and the Northern Territory. We have worked closely with the Jaru people, who are the Traditional Owners of the land surrounding the Browns Range HRE Project. The Jaru people are engaged regularly to conduct archaeological and ethnographic surveys and provide heritage monitoring services during ground disturbing activities. This work has provided essential heritage clearances for key project infrastructure, identified areas of cultural significance, and ensured cultural values and heritage sites are respected. Northern Minerals is committed to maintaining respectful and strong relationships with Traditional Owners.

Community Engagement

We have built a strong and positive relationship with the local community, getting involved by engaging regional stakeholders, providing participation opportunities, and supporting initiatives and culturally significant events. This has included supporting NAIDOC Week celebrations, providing educational sessions at the local primary school, and the implementation of a Training to Work program at our Pilot Plant that provided on-site training for local Aboriginal people.

Northern Minerals is passionate about supporting regional economic development and building connections with and providing opportunities for local businesses. We are members of the East Kimberley Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Broome Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and participate in business awards and networking events hosted by these organisations, ensuring we can build connections and maintain ongoing engagement within the local business communities.
