Sustainability
Environment
We understand the importance of upholding environmental stewardship and compliance with regulations. Taking the right steps to maintain sustainable practices is central to each stage of our operations.
Northern Minerals is committed to becoming sustainable producers of dysprosium and terbium, allowing us to support clean energy technologies and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. To support our commitment to environmental sustainability, we take actions to reduce our impact on the environment and preserve biodiversity. This includes continuously improving our sustainability framework to ensure compliance with changing regulations, undertaking relevant studies and surveys on an ongoing basis, incorporating renewable energy solutions, and improving rehabilitation practices.
Environmental
and Social Management
We are committed to complying with regulatory and contractual obligations for environmental and social management and making continuous improvements in this area. This includes adhering to the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry, Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS) accepted Care and Maintenance Plan and the ongoing development of an Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS). This ensures we can minimise the impact of our operations on vegetation, fauna, and water resources as well as avoiding the generation of wastes.

Case Study:Enhancing Environmental Management
Northern Minerals worked with Mattiske Consulting and Bamford Consulting to refine and consolidate critical environmental mapping datasets. Mattiske Consulting was commissioned to review and update flora and vegetation mapping, while Bamford Consulting was engaged to consolidate vertebrate fauna habitat mapping. This resulted in a single, consistent dataset that served as an input into a key Geographic Information System tool for planning and managing ground disturbance on site. The results of these studies have been instrumental in guiding project planning to avoid or limit environmental impacts, and have allowed us to take a proactive approach to environmental management.
Project Design
Improvements
We are passionate about enhancing the design of our Projects to reduce environmental impact. We continually seek improved design solutions such as opportunities to incorporate renewable energy systems including solar power and wind turbines, reducing reliance on diesel power generation and lowering our greenhouse gas emissions.

Case Study:Rehabilitation and
Environmental Stewardship
Northern Minerals is committed to effective rehabilitation practices to restore disturbed land when the Project concludes. We engaged Mattiske Consulting to assess vegetation regrowth on topsoil treatments applied to waste rock landforms, which included identifying plants and evaluating species richness, density, and foliage cover. These elements contribute to long-term slope stability, and support the development of a sustainable and stable landform. This study will help us to achieve successful vegetation regrowth and larger-scale rehabilitation works in the future, and reflects our commitment to restoring the land and supporting biodiversity in line with best practice standards.
